Have you ever looked for self-care ideas to add into your morning routine and felt overwhelmed?
Like I don’t have time in the morning to exercise for 30 minutes, journal, clean my kitchen and pack my lunch.
Same! But implementing self-care and productivity into your morning doesn’t need to be complicated.
You don’t need a 14 step morning routine- you need a routine that is sustainable. That’s what this blog post is all about!
Tip 1: Start Small
Are you an all or nothing type person? Once you commit to something it has to happen and then once you slip up, you stop altogether?
Me too! I tend to chase perfection. When I first tried to implement self-care into my morning routine I thought I needed time for meditation, journaling and to cook a healthy breakfast (who has time for all that in the AM?!)
This might have happened for a week, but I quickly slipped back into my old habits.
The best way to set yourself up for success is by starting small! Small changes are more sustainable and easier to implement.
If it works for you, start by implementing one thing to set your day off right-make your bed, drink some tea, exercise, journal or read a book for five minutes.
Tip 2: Be Flexible
Some mornings, you just need to let yourself sleep for those extra twenty minutes.
Balance is so important and sometimes self-care means giving yourself time to rest.
Your morning process will most likely evolve and change over time too. Different seasons of your life will demand different things from you.
Allow your morning routine to be adjusted as needed. Just stick to one self-care practice each morning-whether that means you have time for 5 minutes of reading or a whole 30 minutes of exercise.
It's ok if the activity and the amount of time changes!
Tip 3: Let go of the Pinterest-worthy versions of morning routines
I absolutely love Pinterest, but I’ve found that it becomes overwhelming when looking for morning routine ideas.
Starting a morning routine doesn’t need to be Instagram or Pinterest worthy.
The self-care I’ve added into my morning routine is literally just listening to my favorite playlist on Spotify on my way into work.
Just find and do one thing that makes your morning a bit more enjoyable and see where that leads you.
